Truro High School
About
‘Happy Girls Achieve’ is Truro High School’s motto and with 59% of A Level passes at A*/A and a regular place in the Top 5% for Value Added at A Level, there’s much to credit its policy of nurturing talent and encouraging growth for all.
Founded in 1880 by Bishop Benson, Truro High School offers girls aged 4-18 the opportunity to grow up in an environment where every girl matters and every girl is supported and challenged to become the very best that she can be.
Set in Cornwall, the school is just a 45 minute flight from London Gatwick and occupies a leafy site in the cathedral city of Truro. It is less than ten minutes’ drive to the nearest beach and teachers and boarding house staff work hard to ensure they make the most of their stunning environment with regular field trips, outdoor learning and a whole host of weekend activities ranging from surfing to paintballing and from ice-skating to horse-riding on the beach.
Bespoke programmes for Aspiring Medics, Engineers and Lawyers provide weekly mentoring, practical workshops and inspiring lectures for girls at the upper end of the school while a full extra-curricular programme offers the chance to learn a host of new skills from sailing to journalism and from contemporary jazz to Mandarin. In Sixth Form the list broadens again with the chance for the girls to train as lifeguards, earn TEFL qualifications and gain certificates in mental health First Aid.
From the dancer to the Greenpower racing driver, the footballer to the mathematician – every girl is given the confidence to discover her passions and pursue her dreams. At Truro High this means anything from 5am starts to set off for the latest race at Rockingham Speedway to an annual dance show where all girls are given a chance to shine regardless of ability.
A full work experience programme in both Year 10 and Year 12 ensures meaningful and relevant placements which are tailored to meet the aspirations of every single girl from the young engineer who worked with Williams Formula 1 team to the budding young human rights lawyer who worked alongside Amal Clooney.
All girls have the opportunity to take on leadership roles with positions ranging from Head Girl to Form Captain and from STEM Ambassadors to sports coaches. It’s a formula that enables the girls to grow as people, to develop new skills and to continually review and renew the challenges they set themselves.
Boarders at Truro High School live in two houses, Rashleigh and Dalvenie. The atmosphere around the boarding houses is relaxed and friendly with a team of experienced house parents working with teachers to provide one to one academic mentoring as well as a full programme to ensure the girls well-being is foremost.
Pupils at Truro High School are encouraged to develop big and bold ambitions, to have an authentic sense of their own well-being and to know they have the skills and drive to achieve their dreams. This year 94% of leavers have headed to the universities of their choice with destinations including Oxford, York, Warwick and London College of Fashion.
