Founded in 1842, Woldingham is a leading independent boarding and day school for girls aged 11-18 and one of the oldest girls’ schools in the UK. Woldingham School’s grounds are among the most extensive in England; its beautiful 700-acre estate is just 20 miles from London and 45 and 20 minutes from Heathrow and Gatwick Airports respectively.
Woldingham was awarded ‘excellent’ in all areas by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) in 2018 and The Good Schools Guide described Woldingham as a ‘delightful school with pupils to match, benefiting from first class leadership’.
Woldingham girls understand about courage and integrity and develop into young women who achieve academic success and become positive influences in the world. Woldingham is a Catholic school which welcomes girls of all faiths or none.
Teaching is outstanding and Woldingham has an excellent track record of GCSE and A level results, achieving 61% A*-A at A level and 65% 9-7/A*-A at GCSE in 2018. Students gain places at a range of top universities, predominantly Russell Group and Oxbridge.
Woldingham has a strong sense of community and its pastoral care is widely regarded as exceptional. Boarders live amongst their own year group in our homely and well-equipped boarding houses. They are looked after by our experienced and caring staff who understand how to help them settle in quickly and make the most of school life. Boarding facilities are excellent, with small dormitories for the younger girls and individual study bedrooms from Year 10 upwards. Boarders are both local and international and Woldingham is very proud of its diverse mix of over 30 different nationalities. Girls learn respect and tolerance for all and are well prepared for the increasingly global careers market ahead of them.
‘As well as being an excellent seat of learning, it is of great importance to me that Woldingham is a ‘second home’ to our boarders and that they flourish with the help of our superb care and guidance. Living on site means that I am part of this home from home community, and see first-hand the fantastic opportunities embraced by all our students.’ Mrs Alex Hutchinson, Headmistress.
Education at Woldingham extends well beyond the classroom. Woldingham’s co-curricular programme is rich and varied, with over 80 clubs on offer across the week and throughout the weekend. Artists can be bold and experimental in the purpose-built art studio, while the Performing Arts Centre boasts an impressive 600-seat auditorium.
