Pupils have a “charmingly understated confidence”, “there simply aren’t enough hours in the day to do all that is on offer”, the Head is “roundly admired” and there is “no such thing as a typical Old Greshamian - Tatler Schools Guide 2020
Established in 1555, Gresham’s is a vibrant, co-educational day and boarding school for children aged 2 to 18 set in 200 acres of beautiful countryside just four miles from the stunning North Norfolk coast.
Gresham’s is a small school where every child’s strength and talents, whatever they may be, are recognised and nurtured. In 2016, we were awarded an ‘Excellent’ rating in all nine categories by the Independent Schools Inspectorate which is testament to our progressive academic curriculum, high quality teaching and excellent pastoral care.
We provide a broad yet rigorous curriculum combined with an extensive range of sporting and cultural opportunities. Pupils have the choice to study for the IB Diploma or A levels in Sixth Form before progressing to UK and overseas universities such as the University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, University of Edinburgh, Yale University, Berkeley (University of California) and University of Munich.
A wealth of activities, trips and expeditions play a central role in enriching our pupils’ lives. The Combined Cadet Force and Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme offer opportunities for pupils to develop leadership and team building skills whilst our Community, Action and Service programme see pupils taking an active lead in charitable and fundraising events.
Our excellent facilities enable pupils to make the most of their interests and hobbies. Sir James Dyson, Founder of Dyson and Gresham’s alumnus, has donated £19 million for a new centre for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) education. The Dyson Building will be located at the heart of Gresham’s School and will be completed by September 2021.
We also recently invested £5 million in a state-of-the-art music school, the Britten Building, named after former pupil and composer Benjamin Britten and opened by HRH The Princess Royal in July 2017.
Old Greshamians have achieved great success in many fields and include the poet W H Auden, hovercraft inventor Sir Christopher Cockerell, as well as more recently Oscar winning actress Olivia Colman, film director Stephen Frears and international rugby players Tom and Ben Youngs.
