Royal Alexandra and Albert School
Description
"This boarding school is outstanding" - Ofsted
The March 2018 boarding Ofsted report went on to confirm that “The school provides a secure environment in which children and young people flourish, achieve academically, stretch their abilities and develop social skills.”
Situated in 260 acres of beautiful private parkland in Reigate, Surrey the Royal Alexandra and Albert School is a co-educational state boarding school and home to a lively community of 450 boarders, ranging in age from 7 to 18 years old. They learn alongside local pupils known as Flexi Boarders, who have all their meals and activities at the School but return home in the evenings.
The School’s extensive grounds house fantastic sporting facilities, including flood-lit all-weather sports pitches, a state-of-the-art fitness centre, indoor swimming pool, and Equestrian Centre. The sports facilities are used for curriculum lessons as well as co-curricular activities.
The School’s Co-Curricular Programme focuses on two areas – ‘something for everyone’ and ‘the pursuit of excellence’ – and offers pupils over 120 activities to choose from every term, including kayaking, judo, Model United Nations, mandarin, and fencing.
This year’s academic results saw the School become the top non-selective state school in the area with 82% of GCSEs graded 4 - 9 in the summer of 2018. Sixth Form pupils also continue to succeed academically, with over a quarter of A Levels graded A or A*. Many pupils have gone on to secure places at some of the country’s top universities, including the universities of Cambridge, Bristol, Durham and LSE.
The Sixth Form at the Royal Alexandra and Albert School is a supporting and diverse community which focuses on preparing pupils for the world of work and academia, whilst building essential lifelong skills.
In the Sixth Form there is an emphasis on developing leadership skills and a global outlook. As such, pupils participate in the Global Leader Award, a bespoke leadership and skills-based development programme. In addition, all pupils undertake, alongside their A Levels, the Extended Project Qualification or the Cambridge Pre-U Global Perspectives short course, a much sought after qualification by top universities.
At the core of the School’s community is an understanding of pupil needs and a commitment to education – in the truest sense of the word. That is, the development of strong values, character, resilience and independence, as well as academic achievement.
